Summer Fun in the Pacific NW

Summer has finally arrived, and while Portland experienced the wettest spring in over 81 years, the Pacific Northwest social calendar, like the weather, is starting to heat up! From much-loved music festivals and celebrations of the arts, to a city-wide celebration while floating the river, there is so much to look forward to – rain or shine! Here are a few local favorites to check out this summer.

Festival of Balloons | June 24-26 | Cook Park in Tigard, OR

The Festival of Balloons is a Tigard staple that brings more than a dozen brightly colored, colossal hot-air balloons to the sky every June…but there’s more than just balloons! Enjoy a fair-like vibe, carnival rides, Rogue Ales Beer Garden, and live music!

Cost: $5 advance ticket ($8 at the gate; kids under 6 enter free) gets you in all weekend long.

The market supports BIPOC growers in taking their small business dreams to the farmers' market environment. Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts | June 25-26 | George Rogers Park in Lake Oswego

This free (donations encouraged) festival has proudly presented unique art exhibits from local, national and international artists for more than 50 years! Enjoy live music on two stages, performances, kids’ activities, artist demos and fantastic local fare.

Pedalpalooza | Various Dates in June, July & August | All Over the Metro Area

Pedalpalooza returns to Portland this summer, now with added dates throughout June, July and August to allow more opportunities for smaller group rides! Whether you’re a cycling enthusiast or a newbie cruiser, this fun event has something for you – with a mixture of family-friendly and adult-only rides that bring the community together through biking.

Waterfront Blues Festival | July 1-4 | Tom McCall Waterfront Park in Portland

2022 marks the 35th anniversary of the Waterfront Blues Festival – and you don’t want to miss it! Over the course of four days and four stages, there will be more than 100 blues, soul, funk and R&B artists, as well as local favorite food trucks, wineries, breweries and more! Close out the weekend with an incredible waterfront view of the 4th of July fireworks!

The Big Float | July 10 | Tom McCall Waterfront Park

Every July, this celebration of the river runs through the city with a motley crew of enthusiastic Portlanders equipped with inner tubes, floating loungers, inflatable toys, crazy costumes to create a massive “flotilla” on the Willamette River next to downtown. Enjoy splashing around in the river at the height of Portland’s summer alongside everyone from Portland’s mayor to Batman cosplayers and compete to win prizes for wacky watercraft and costumes.

Note: Life jackets are required for all participants!

 

Summer Free for All | Various Dates from July 9 – September 3 | Citywide

Portland Parks & Rec’s Summer Free for All brings over 400 free events to locals all summer long. From Zumba classes to movie screenings and concerts, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
