As real estate professionals and active members of our community, it is important to us to give back. One Tail at a Time - Portland is one of the organizations that we work to support throughout the year, and we are excited to feature this fantastic non-profit in our blog this month. What is One Tail at a Time - Portland?

One Tail at a Time - Portland (OTAT PDX) is a 501(c)(3) all-breed, no-kill dog rescue committed to lowering euthanasia rates through the rescue and adoption of dogs in need; comprehensive support of adopters; and community outreach through humane education programs and assistance for disadvantaged and low-income families. While it began in Chicago in 2008, one of the members expanded the organization when she moved to Portland in 2015, and it's since become its own organization. OTAT PDX saves dogs who otherwise may not have had a second chance by placing them in approved, loving, and committed volunteer foster homes until they're adopted.

Why One Tail at a Time - Portland?

We are a team of passionate real estate professionals, but we're also passionate animal lovers! Not only is our own team member, Missi, part of the OTAT PDX associate board and a heavily-involved volunteer, but she has personally fostered 20+ dogs through the organization, recently adopting one she just couldn't let go! Jen, our fearless leader, ALSO met and adopted her best four-legged friend, Tater, through OTAT PDX!

One Tail at a Time - Portland has made a huge, positive impact in our lives, among so many others! We believe that it's not just people who deserve to find the right home.

How Do I Become a Foster?

Caring, open-minded and patient fosters are critical in helping OTAT PDX dogs transition and settle comfortably into a home setting, and OTAT PDX welcomes fosters from all walks – whether you live in a condo, small apartment or house, have children, cats, dogs, or other pets, we can find a temporary match for you. It is a wonderful way for animal lovers to give these wonderful dogs a new lease on life!

OTAT PDX works to make fostering as easy as possible, providing crates, food, treats, toys, leash/color, medications (when needed), free training (when needed), free doggie daycare or dog walking if you have longer work days, free boarding should you go out of town while fostering, and reimbursement for any necessary out of-pocket expenses.

An application and screening process is required prior to fostering any OTAT PDX dog, and can be found online by clicking here. Fill it out and change a dog’s life!

How Do I Adopt?

All OTAT PDX dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and currently living in a foster home waiting for their new family! You can view available dogs on the One Tail at a Time - Portland website and fill out an adoption survey. You can also reach out by email to adoptions@otatpdx.org with any questions.

How Else Can I Get Involved?

In addition to volunteering, fostering, and adopting, OTAT PDX has a membership program that works to support the organization financially. The membership is just $10 per month, but goes a long way to help. You can learn more about the membership program and how to sign-up here. One-time donations are always greatly appreciated, as well and help with vet bills and financial care for these amazing pups.
